cooked crab xo sauce

Tuesday is Free-Seafood-cooking Day!!

Did you know?

Dong Tam Fish Market started offering FREE cooking of your fresh seafood on Tuesdays?!?

It really doesn’t get any fresher than picking your live crab one moment, then being handed the DELICIOUS version a moment later! (from two different shops). Let’s face it, seafood can be difficult to cook fancy style. grammar bad.

Flavours for crustaceans (crab/lobster/prawns)? Tamarind (my favourite), Salt n Pepper (very popular), XO flavour either Dry- no sauce (most popular) or with sauce, ginger and shallot or chilli singaporean. Noodles can be added for an extra $10 (serves 4-5 ppl).

Flavours for fish? Traditional Vietnamese caramelised (may take half an hour to cook) or fried (shallow or deep).

How? Dong Tam owns both the Fish Market AND the (Dong Tam) Vietnamese & Chinese Take Away shop. Buy the fresh produce from the daughter and she’d hand it over to her mother to be cooked up for you at the other store.

If you aren’t liking the idea of picking a live victim crab for dinner, you could always take advantage of the cooked trays of prawn, calamari or crab. Having dibs on the wholesale prices of seafood,  allows the take away shop to offer you fresh cheap cooked meals! Just the other Friday, I picked up a tray of salt n pepper crab for $22! (prices are written in texta on the cling wrap…see pic below)

Can’t make Tuesdays? Cooking is charged at $5 per kilo.

Note: Allow 30minutes for cooking.

Reheating at home? Place it in a hot oven for 5 minutes, any longer and you run the risk of further cooking your seafood….resulting in dry and chewy meat!
