Crazy Trading Hours

Did you know?

That shops will be opened on public holidays?! If ever you find that you’re out of prawns or meat for your barbie on Anzac Day just head over to Cabramatta. You can always count on businesses to be in full swing. Cabramatta is one of the few areas (sydney CBD included) that has been identified as a tourist region, which means that we operate on public holidays AND liquor stores are licensed to sell alcohol on these days too. So don’t fret if you are out of wine or beer. John street will save you!

A note of caution though….we DO take breaks! You may not be so lucky during Chinese New Year, when shops will typically close for 3 to 5 days in celebration. Shopowners usually take these days off to clean, cook, eat and visit family…and hand out a lot of gifts. Cha-ching!

Cabramatta has unusual trading hours. Unlike other places where opening on weekdays are mandatory, Cabramatta may be closed instead. You see, Cabramatta is most busiest on weekends, so shopkeepers take the quietest days off during the week.

Crazy Trading hours: either shops are opened 7 days a week or are closed Wednesday and/Thursday.

One local bakery is SO CRAZY (Viet Hoa Bakery 105 John St), they are opened 24hr. It’s also oh-so convenient that they serve the best pandan waffles and xiu mai (pork meatball) roll. The meatball roll kicks a#%! Drunken wedding guests from multiple receptions along John St, are known to frequent the place at 12am with a serious case of the munchies.

So next time you’re hungry forĀ  healthy good value snack…..?

I personally use it as a pitt stop on my midnight/morning drives down south ( Cabramatta easily exits off the M5) to Canberra and the ski slopes.
